About the Open
History of the Open
U.S. Squash, the governing body of the sport in America, was founded in 1904. U.S. Squash began the tournament at the University Club of New York on New Year’s Day in 1954. The event was a dramatic success and was widely covered by the press in New York. Professionals came from all over—Egypt, South Africa, Pakistan, England, Scotland and France—to compete for the inaugural title. It was won by Henri Salaun from France. This year, we expect a current great French player and 3-time Windy City Open Finalist, Greg Gaultier to compete in the event.
The US Open has been hosted coast to coast in the USA—from New York to San Francisco, Houston, Minneapolis, Boston and Chicago (2009 and 2010). The tournament has grown in size and reputation and remains one of the coveted titles on the international tour.
